Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning is going to be released on Blu-ray on Jan. 22, 2013. It’s a brutal yet beautiful movie from director John Hyams. It immerses viewers into an ultra-violent world, with its own style, which in fact, I can even say elegant.
Starring: Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dolph Lundgren, Scott Adkins, David Jensen (II)
It’s a straightforward but thought-provoking story that serves as a fine frame of this movie. John’s (Scott Adkins) home is invaded and he is severely beaten to the point of physical helplessness and witnesses the brutal execution of his wife and young daughter. After he awakens from a coma, he vows to kill the man responsible — Luc Devereaux (Jean-Claude Van Damme). As John fights his way towards Devereaux, he begins to unravel the startling truth about his past and the direction of his destiny.
This movie is dominated by dark atmosphere, high energy, and hard-hitting action, which shows viewers a world of killing machines and blood. However, it doesn’t want to unsettle its audience, it emphasizes style, choreography, and mood above violence and puts everything together very well.
Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning is a high end presentation from Sony. It features a stunning flawless 1080p high definition transfer and a satisfying DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless soundtrack. Close-ups reveal even every droplet of sweat, stubble of facial hair, and splotch of blood. And the soundtrack goes seamlessly with action scenes to support them artistically.
This movie will be on a 50 GB Blu-ray disc, which supports subtitles of English, English SDH, and Spanish, and is playable in Region A (B, C untested).
