“Flight” Coming to Blu-ray on Feb. 5 — Inaction, but Thriving

Director Robert Zemeckis’s Flight is going to be released on Blu-ray on Feb. 5, 2013, which tells a story of an airline pilot who saves a flight from crashing, but an investigation into the malfunctions reveals something troubling, since the pilot is a liquor and cocaine abuser, and that’s just what keeps him going.

Starring: Denzel Washington, John Goodman, Don Cheadle, Kelly Reilly, Bruce Greenwood, Melissa Leo

Director: Robert Zemeckis

William “Whip” Whitaker (Denzel Washington) is an airline pilot who is perpetually drunk and often high on cocaine, and he’s largely non-functional without them. But today he’ll face the ultimate test of his skill as he and the co-pilot Ken Evans (Brian Geraghty) take off from a stormy Orlando for a quick jump across state lines to Atlanta. Whip uses some daring flying to maneuver the plane through a heavy rainstorm, but the plane suffers damage and falls into an uncontrollable descent. Whip’s quick thinking and ingenious flying keep the plane in the air just long enough to crash it into an empty field, this saves his life, and lives of the majority of his passengers and crew.

In the hospital, Whip awakens, and then meets Nicole (Kelly Reilly), a burned-out drug addict, with whom Whip begins an intimate relationship. But while Nicole tries to clean herself up, Whip continues to abuse drugs and alcohol. Whip must prepare himself to testify in front of the National Transportation Safety Board, and clean himself up and abstain from alcohol and hard drugs or else lose everything he has, and face manslaughter charges for his role in the crash and intoxication at the time thereof.

Denzel Washington’s master performance wows audiences and makes Flight into “elite” status. He plays a man who keeps control in a perpetual haze with illicit drugs and alcohol packing his system. He has a firm grasp of his faculties under danger and pressure. Washington plays the character struggling with heartbreak and disbelief so well that you will find this inaction movie just thriving, in its own unique and deeply attracting way.

Flight features 1080p video and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless soundtrack. It has audio of English, French, Spanish, or Portuguese. Playback for Region A (B, C untested).

  1. dvdfab 9 or 8 wont copy.. it sees several files with a total of 34+GB in size.. which one do we pick???

    1. Hi, rick, usually you will see several files as your disc may have several chapters, in order to copy the full movie or disc to other disc, you may select all files and then define the output size of the disc.

  2. why give a review of a movie that is already available? Because the release is Blueray does not make it anything new. Instead of wasting time on the review, spend time figuring out why this movie will not copy on any version of your product. Also, why can’t I sign in and use version 9?

  4. i tried to to rip it as well and it will only rip 1:09 of it then stops. Is this a DVD problem or a software issue?

    1. Also having the same problem, ripped AVI and completes ‘successfully’ but the output is only the first 1:09
