Heart-throb Leonardo DiCaprio Stars the Great Gatsby

First published on April 10th, 1925, The Great Gatsby, considered as the masterpiece of F. Scott Fitzgerald, one of the greatest American writers of the 20th century who also is regarded as a member of the “Lost Generation” of the 1920s, is a Classic American Novel. Since the republication in 1945 and 1953, it becomes one of the university courses on American literature in countries around the world, and is ranked No. 2 on the list of the 100 Best Novels of the 20th Century conducted by Modern Library.

Plot: Chronicling an era that Fitzgerald himself coined as “The Jazz Age”, the storyline was set at North Shore of Long Island and the city of New York during the summer of 1922. Following the great shocks and chaos of World War I, American society enjoyed unprecedented levels of prosperity during the first two roaring decades of the 20th century as the economy soared.

Nick Carraway, the first-person narrator and Gatsby’s next-door neighbor, introduces the novel.  Based on the old advice that his wealthy father once gave him at the very early stage of his life, he always tries his best not to judge anyone hastily. However, he admits that this habit often causes him some problems now and then, especially when it comes to something related to this millionaire neighbor nicknamed as the great Gatsby.

Jay Gatsby, a tycoon extremely known for his obsession in hosting lavish parties in his own extravagant and luxurious mansion where hundreds of guests, although many of whom are uninvited, come every Saturday, soon personally invites Nick by a rather formal invitation through one of his butlers. Soon after, Nick finds himself getting involved into Gatsby’s gorgeous party scene, although he superficially claims to sniff at his entire notion of mindless entertainment.

Nick releases the story by recalling that that he, a Yale Graduate and a veteran of WWI, has moved from Midwest to the city of New York to hunt himself a job. He lives in a very much poor conditioned low-cost cottage rented in West Egg. At times, Nick visits Daisy Buchanan, his second cousin, whose husband was a football player at Yale named Tom and who now is a phenomenally wealthy polo player. The Buchanans have an opulent mansion in East Egg. Here, Nick meets Jordan Baker, a lady friend of Daisy’s and well-known golfer…

As the storyline develops, Gatsby starts a relationship with Daisy, and Nick begins an affair with Jordan Baker. But ahead, madness and tragedies await…
